#PRRunningFamily

A group of people who are passionate about fitness and our community.

Allow us to introduce you to our staff, one story at a time. #PRRunningFamily

We’d like to introduce you to Shannon Scalan AKA Mama Bear / =PR= Leesburg & =PR= Training Programs

I grew up playing soccer in Northern Virginia for most of my childhood. It wasn’t until after college that I took up running. At first I started with walking a three mile loop around my old stomping grounds in Sugarland Run. This slowly became a run/walk. A family friend had been diagnosed with breast cancer so I decided I would raise money and run the National Susan G. Komen 5K in DC. I was hooked!

Back in 2007 I attended a Ladies Night at the Reston Town Center =PR= store and Cathy Pugsley (one of the =PR= owners) convinced me to try a new training program called Running 201. I was so nervous because I am a super slow runner. I really like to get my money’s worth out of a race course 😉 … I was, as I expected, the slowest person in the class. But everyone was so supportive. That was when I first joined the #PRRunningFamily.

Since then I have completed every distance from a 5K to a marathon, with the half marathon distance being my favorite.

The coaches and friends I met through =PR= Training Programs changed my life for the better. So much so that five years ago I quit my accounting job to work full time for Potomac River Running.

You can find me floating from store to store training employees, talking running/walking with our guests and helping out with the training programs. I am also currently perfecting my taco to mile ratio recovery plan to go along with my run time to nap time recovery plan.*

*Neither plan is endorsed by =PR= Training Programs
