2012 =PR= Race Series

The Reston 10 Miler is a good way to open up the spring racing season. Join us for this great event. There will be music, food, and awards following the race. Commemorative short sleeve technical t-shirts to all participants. The Reston 10 Miler offers a challenging and scenic course though picturesque Reston, Virginia. The race starts on South Lakes Drive and finishes on the South Lakes High School Track.

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, Potomac River Running organized the Run for Haiti 5K and Fun Run in March of 2010. With the support of the community, Potomac River Running was able to donate all of the proceeds to the Red Cross organization to support the thousands needing medical treatment and basic supplies. A year has passed, but the need is still great to provide aid to those whose lives were torn apart by the unprecedented disaster. For 2012, =PR= has selected Shalom Village to receive the donation to be made from the proceeds of the race.

The 3rd Annual Rockstar Run 8k on Sunday, April 29 will run through scenic Burke Centre, using Burke Centre Parkway. Join us and bring your family for a great event. There is also a one mile fun run for those not wishing to run 8k. The Rockstar Race benefits the Celebrate Cherie Scholarship Fund. Cherie Yadao, a physical therapist and manager for Commonwealth Orthopaedics had her life cut short on August 29, 2009 at age 35 after a valiant fight against a rare cancer, extra pulmonary small cell carcinoma. To the end, Cherie lived her life to the fullest and touched so many lives in the process. To know Cherie is to understand her favorite saying “Party like a Rockstar”. The Rockstar Run 8k/1 mile fun run/walk celebrates the essence of Cherie-her spirit of adventure, her tenacity, and her insatiable zest for life. Proceeds from this race will go to the Celebrate Cherie Scholarship Fund to help physical therapy students pursue their dream of helping others as Cherie did. Music, food, prizes following the race.

Join us for the Devotion to Children 4-Miler Mother’s Day Race. The race benefits Devotion To Children (DTC). The 4-Miler starts at 8 a.m. on Baron Cameron Avenue and will finish at Browns Chapel Park. There is also an untimed one mile fun run and walk for those not wishing to do 4 miles. The sixth annual Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler will be held in Ashburn, VA. The fast course and evening start make this a unique event you will not want to miss. Run With Dad will run through scenic Reston, using the Reston pathway system. The Friends of A New Beginning will host a 5K Run/Walk at the Fairfax County Government Center on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 8:30 AM. This annual event is in memory of Tim Harmon, the Director of Residential Services for Alcohol and Drug Services of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. Tim, who was instrumental in the development and service provision of several county alcohol and drug treatment centers, passed away in 1999 from Hepatitis C. Over 800 runners, walkers, and sponsors participate in the annual Tim Harmon 5K Run/Walk. The event raises awareness of Hepatitis C and its impact on our community. Proceeds from the event will be distributed to organizations providing advocacy, education, and services to those at risk of contracting the Hepatitis C virus. Proceeds will also help to supplement funds for treatment center residents in need of medical attention. A portion of funds will be applied to a scholarship fund for continuing education in the field of substance abuse.

Run for Independence 8k

PJoin us for the inaugural Run for Independence 8k! The 8k will run through the streets of Leesburg and it will be a great way to kick off the Independence Day Holiday. The Run for Independence 8k benefits The ARC of Loudoun, The Paxton Campus in Leesburg, which works with and advocates for children and adults with disibilities. The race will feature festive post race activities including music, food, and awards. There will also be plenty of activities for the entire family.

Come out to celebrate the 4th of July with Potomac River Running! The Firecracker 5k will start and finish at Reston Town Center. The course is a fast loop around the Town Center area on the local roads.  Join us, bring the family and begin the July 4 celebration with a run! The race is chip timed. Come out and join us on Sunday, August 19 for the 24th Annual Leesburg 10K and 9th Annual 20K. Run through scenic, historic Leesburg – you may even come across a cow or two! Enjoy a rare opportunity to run a longer race during August – 7:30 start time helps to beat the heat! This race supports the important local youth programs organized by the YMCA Loudoun County.

Join us on 9/8 at 8 AM for the Chick-fil-A 5k for the benefit of the Freedom Alliance, a 501(c)3 educational and charitable foundation whose mission is to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense. The 5k course will start and finish at Chick-fil-A at 45440 Dulles Crossing Plaza (near Lowes). All pre-registered runners will receive a commemorative Nike technical race t-shirt. Chick-fil-A will provide post race food for runners. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall males and females in the 5k as well as the top 3 males and females in the 5k in age-group categories. Mark your calendars for BCC’s Annual 5K & Fall Fest, September 15th! Whether you plan on running the race, or just want to bring the family out for some good old-fashioned fun, you won’t want to miss this spectacular day of events! 5K Run will take place at 8:30 am and festival from 9 am-1 pm. Festival will include: 110’ obstacle course and rock wall– tons of children’s sponsors with free activities, games & raffles– food and more! “Fetch” the mascot of the Loudoun Hounds will also be there! Proceeds from the event will benefit Ashburn Fire and Rescue Department. Cash prizes to male and female: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place (1st: $300; 2nd $200; 3rd $100)
